About Me
I am a mixed media artist based in a small village in the heart of Cheshire; I work from my little studio which is filled to the rafters with boxes of ephemera, vintage fabrics, typewriters, sewing machines, threads, hand painted papers and books and my little rescue Jack Russell "Patch" is never far away!
During My Masters Degree in Fashion and Textiles I discovered ‘wabi Sabi’ and the ethos of ‘beauty in imperfection’; this really captures my inspirations and the work which I produce, I am influenced by tactile aged surfaces like peeling paint on walls and fabrics which are threadbare but laden with memories and stories to tell. I like to photograph and record elements of trace, things that indicate a remnant or mark of something previous. And I feel that these recordings come through in the tactile surface which I create in my mixed media pieces.
Within my work I use a combination of layered surfaces, collaged fabrics and papers, machine, hand stitch and drawing to create one off pieces and I like to incorporate vintage and discarded items into my work to convey messages of nostalgia and I use collage and stitch to hold layers together but also as a tool for drawing.
My four favourite words are…..trace, absence, imperfection & serendipity. My work is exhibited in galleries all over the UK and I am represented by Collier & Dobson and The Art Group who publish prints of small collections of my work.
